| Post-Newtonian theory plays an important role for the data analysis of gravitational waves (GWs) generated by compact binary systems. In this talk, after some general review of the field, we describe the recent calculation of GWs emitted by spinless compact binaries through the fourth-and-a-half post-Newtonian (4.5PN) order beyond Einstein quadrupole formula. To 4PN order we need to include a cubically non-linear effect called "GW tails-of-memory", which contains, in particular, the modification of the standard memory effect at 2.5PN order due to GW tails. |
